Friday Favorite Tumblr - A Blog with a View

You know that warm, sweet feeling you get when you’re all cuddled up, drinking hot chocolate and completely lost inside of the world of a really great book? It’s heavenly. As college students, we really don’t have the time for that luxury all too often, but I swear to you, A Blog with a View is the next best thing.

The private and mysterious mind behind this Tumblr says that her blog is her visual journal. It’s very English, very cozy and very library chic. Read below to find out a little more about the anonymous creator below.

College Fashionista: Where are you from, and where did you go to college?

A Blog with a View: I’m originally from the States, but I’m currently studying in Europe.

CF: Your blog definitely has a literary theme. Who, in your opinion, would be the best dressed character from a book out there? Why?

BV: I think the best-dressed character from a book would have to be Dorian Gray. Oscar Wilde goes on for pages and pages about the fineries his protagonist insists on having in his life, so I’ve always imagined him to be an impeccably dressed individual, the dandiest of them all.

Yet, when I think of fashion in literature, my mind immediately goes to Anne Shirley. I don’t think of her as an exceptionally dressed heroine, but her passion for pretty dresses and her obsession with puffed sleeves set her apart.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

BV: I’d say my personal style is, above all, classic. I like to go for simple elegance with my clothes. No matter the season, you’re most likely to find me in a dress, tights, and flats. Meanwhile, I find luxury in my accessories. I have a weakness for scarves, bags, and jewelry, so I’ll do things like balance out a simple dress with a bright, silk scarf and/or a cluster of pearls, an old coat with a mink scarf, etc.

CF: If you could time travel to any decade based on the fashion of the time alone, which one would it be?

BV: I would travel to the very late 1910s/early 1920s in a heartbeat. The era stands out due to its aesthetics, but its fashions are what truly set it apart. Anyone who follows my blog knows that I have a slight obsession with Downton Abbey, so my answer may not come as a surprise. However, what people may not know is that I partly watch the show for the fashion. The intricate gowns, coats, blouses, riding costumes… Everything they exhibit is magnificent and has served to confirm the era as my sartorial favorite.

CF: What inspired you to start your own Tumblr?

BV: I followed several fashion blogs for years and was finally unable to ignore the temptation of starting a blog of my own. However, I knew I wanted to do things a little differently and dedicate it to more than just fashion. I wanted a space to share different quotes and photos with people of similar interests. Tumblr provided an interactive platform that allowed me to do just that, and I therefore decided to make it my blogging home.

The next time you need some fabulous inspiration or a dose of coziness (8AM lecture, anyone?), A Blog with a View is the Tumblr to check out.
